Workshop Purpose The Jacksonville Funding Green Building Workshop will help address the challenges in combining waterfront construction with LEED and other green building standards. The workshop promotes interaction of public agencies, educators and business leaders with local property developers.
The purpose is to present funding methods, priorities, products and analysis which blend green building goals with clean water goals.

Region - Jacksonville In addition to expanding international port operations (JAXport), the area has both fresh water (St. Johns River) and salt water destinations. The Jacksonville Economic Development Commission has introduced an Action Plan outlining environmental priorities and the City Council recently passed incentives for sustainable building permits.
The Jacksonville area presents a strategic location when used with EPA Smartway guidelines. Local distribution centers are within 500 miles of the State of Florida, Caribbean islands, and all other southeastern states.

Host Site - St. Johns Pilot Association - has recently constructed the first FRP (fiber reinforced polymer) dock system. The extended life-cycle of the system (over 50 years) will benchmark a marine construction standard. Project data is monitored to insure the long term quality control of materials, and impact on the waterway, . |
